Valerie Munch
Valerie Munch of Saskatoon attended high school in Esterhazy and attained her teaching certificate at the University of Saskatchewan. She taught elementary school in Saskatoon for three years then retired to raise two daughters and pursue her interest in art.Her first works included studies in charcoal and oils. However watercolour became her favorite medium. The majority of Valerie’s work centers around Saskatchewan landscapes and architecture, although an interest in florals adds an element of variety.
Artist Statement:
Painting provides me with the opportunity to experience a portion of my province that lies outside my immediate community and time.I have ventured from the main highways and explored Saskatchewan, visiting small communities and homesteads, reliving its history and meeting people that make Saskatchewan unique.I continue to find enjoyment in the familiar landmarks of Saskatoon and in the challenge of portraying them in a new light.I strive to convey these experiences to others through the clean transparent tones of watercolour.
