Dean Francis
Born in Saskatchewan in 1955, Dean Francis showed artistic talent as a youth.  He was raised on a farm near Mantario, Saskatchewan.  It was here that he learned to draw and to appreciate nature.  While a great deal of his time was committed to art, he did not pursue art as a career until several years after completing high school.  This is when he decided to further his education at the Medicine Hat College of Art.  He believed that a two year visual arts course would turn him into an artist.  Dean soon learned that it is not the training or innate talent alone that create an artist, but rather perseverance and the continuing desire to improve. Dean spends a great deal of time hiking and canoing so that he may observe and photograph the country side and its wildlife.  A strong believer in the concept that an artist must know what he paints,  Dean spends countless hours in the outdoors.
